Sight Word, Word Smash

Our boys love playdough and we love using our hammers!  I’m continuing to work on sight words with Blake (6yo)! Most nights we do flashcards, he usually pretty good about doing it.  As we were doing it one night, I noticed that he has trouble with words that start with the same letter. So I wanted to make a fun activity to help him out!

That’s when I came up with this word smash game! I wrote a bunch of words that started with the same letter on a piece of paper. I then rolled small balls of playdough and put it next to it.  My idea was to call out the word and have him smash it. But he was having one of those days where it started off badly. He couldn’t seem to get the words correct so he got frustrated quickly. I decided to change the activity and instead of calling out the words we went over each word. As he said it, he smashed the playdough and he spelled out the word instead!  We have to work on spelling it so it was a good time to do that too!
