Simple and Fun Apple Activities

The changing of the seasons is always a lot of fun and met with tons of excitement! Although Hawaii does not have a dramatic change of seasons we do feel it! So it’s time to bundle up and take out our fun fall activities! These simple activities to do with your kids are sure to create a memorable fall!

The boys love apples but don’t always finish it. They recently discovered eating whole apples and won’t let me slice it up. Some days they aren’t able to finish the whole apple. Instead of throwing it away, I put those apples to good use!

Apple Stamps

I cut an apple in half and we painted the apple with washable paints and stamp them. They loved painting the apple stamps rainbow colors.

Here are a few tips to make it go smoother.

  • Wipe the apple after they stamp it. Otherwise, the color would mix. It was easy to do and they had tons of painting.
  • Lay a bunch of papers down so they’ll have lots of room to stamp. Because apples are on the bigger side it’s easy to quickly fill up a sheet of paper.

Painting is one of our favorite activities! Here are other easy and creative ways to paint!

Memory Making Questions:

  • What is your favorite apple dessert? Maybe you could look up an easy recipe!
  • What is your favorite fall activity?

Apple Sensory Bin

Another easy way to use apples is a sensory bin. This sensory bin was quickly put together with just a few supplies.

Honestly, this wasn’t a planned activity. Jake was supposed to do the apple painting but decided to do his own thing and I went with it. It turned out to be a great sensory activity for him!

Supplies:

  • Apples
  • Paint
  • Water
  • Paintbrushes
  • Plates
  • Bin

I put a bowl of water in the bin. Along with a plate full of paint. He had a paintbrush and mixed the paints. He painted his apple and splashed around in the water. It was simple and easy. Since I had everything in the bin it was easy to clean up. It was so simple but he learned so much! He could see the colors mix and feel the water as well as different textures!

Cinnamon Apple Sensory Bin

We had more than half-eaten apples so I cut it up and sprinkled some cinnamon on it. I added a slotted spoon to it and some bowls. The boys loved the smell of it and had fun scooping, pouring, and mixing it. We also worked on our numbers. I asked them for a certain amount of apples and they served it to me!

Pretend play is one of my favorite ways to make memories with the boys! Although at times it takes me out of my comfort zone (I’m more of a goal-oriented person) we always have a lot of fun. Once I start to get into it we laugh a lot and boys take the lead!

Memory Making Questions When you Role Play:

  • It’s getting chilly outside, what item on your menu would you recommend?
  • This pie is amazing! How did you make it?

Corn and Candy Pumpkin Letters

We eat popcorn a lot at our house but I accidentally put the popcorn kernels in the wrong cabinet and it expired. As I was cleaning out our cabinets I stumbled upon it and thought it would make a fun sensory bin! (Before I throw out old items I always try to make a sensory bin out of it!)

Supplies:

  • Popcorn Kernels
  • Pumpkin candy
  • Tweezers/chopsticks
  • Letters

I dumped the popcorn kernels that I found into a bin that I bought at Target. Then I added candy pumpkins to it. I had Zack pick the pumpkins with chopsticks and put it on the letters that I wrote. After he was done he was free to play with the kernels and eat a few candy pumpkins, which was a fun reward for him!

Apple Counting

We made Kool-Aid playdough as part of a class assignment! It was simple to make and so soft! We rolled out letters with it and then we used it as apples in our tree. I printed out the free play dough mat from Abcdeelearning, it’s the counting apple mats under her free resources. She has it with numbers on it but I covered it up so we wouldn’t get mixed up when we played this easy game.

I got out dice and had Zack roll it. He then rolled the play dough to make apples (a fun way to sneak fine motor skills in!) and put it on his tree. We took turns as we played and kept adding apples. Each time we added an apple we recounted the ones that were already there to find the total. We had a lot of fun playing this game and the playdough smelled amazing!

With the changing of the season and a few simple fall activities I hope you’re able to relax a bit and create these easy memories with your kids!
