Simple and Stress Free Dinosaur Activities

The boys are obsessed with dinosaurs. It’s been a long phase so we’ve done more than our fair share of dinosaur activities. I usually am putting together activities on the fly so these all are simple to put together and require little time. Most of the time the boys will go into free play after! These are the perfect activities to do when you need some time for yourself! You can spend a few minutes connecting with them and then get some things done as they play! These simple dinosaur activities have been on repeat at our house for all three boys, 2, 4, 6 years old!  If you’re looking for other simple activities to do with your kids check out this post!

Simple dinosaur fizz activity.

Egg Hatching Fizz

This was a really simple fun activity. We did it in two parts. The boys helped create the eggs and then they hatched them another day. I found this recipe on to make the eggs on the Suburban Wife City Life blog, I mixed 2 1/4 cup baking soda and 3/4 cup water. I then formed an egg shape around our little plastic dinosaurs. I left it out to dry for a few days. Then we were ready for part two!

To hatch it I mixed vinegar and water (the boys can go through vinegar quickly so I add water to stretch it out) and food color (which is optional) to work on our color mixing.

We’ve done a lot of different activities with baking soda and vinegar. From making “potions”, freezing it, and creating volcano eruptions. No matter how many times we do it this is always a favorite for us and they’re always learning something new!

Quick set up tape and dinosaur activity.

Save the Dinos

This simple activity is a lot of fun. All of my kids love playing with tape so this is the perfect activity for them! It works on their fine motor skills and only takes a minute to set up! Even my oldest son has fun with this!

Fun fine motor skills activity with dinosaurs and ice.

Dino Freeze

This was a simple and fun activity. Water/ice is always a hit at our house! So I knew they’d like this one! All I did was freeze dinosaurs in an ice cube tray. I’ve seen other people get fancy by adding food coloring to the water (which we’ve done when we did our watermelon ice) or freezing it in a water balloon so it’s an egg shape.

Once it was frozen I popped it out of the tray. I gave them a small container of salt, water, and some fine motor tools.

Things we talked about:

  • We talked about different temperatures.
  • Which way is the fastest way to melt the ice?
  • Dino Playdough Egg

This simple activity is a lot of fun. I like that it’s quick to set up. I was able to set it up as they played with the playdough next to me! Simple cover dinosaur figurines in play dough. Make sure that you cover all of it, I’d sometimes I would miss a tail or an arm! They worked hard to hatch their dinosaurs to play with!

Simple Dinosaur play dough footprints.

Dino footprints

We were having a bad day so I brought out the playdough and dinosaurs. I showed them how to roll out the dough with their hands. Their hands worked hard rolling out the dough!! They then readied they had rolling pins so they ran to get those. They loved seeing the different types of food prints each dinosaur left. Once they were making footprints they started to make houses for the dinosaurs! It was fun to see how they took this activity to the next level on their own!

Things we talked about:

  • What kind of house do you think dinosaurs lived in?
  • Can you match the different footprints?

One of the biggest struggles is to be present with my kids. After getting them set up, I want to run away and check things off my to-do list. But if you slow down and spend a few minutes with them it can make all the difference. Not only with learning shapes, numbers, and colors but also with creating memories.
