How to Shop with Kids at Ala Moana

Shopping isn’t always easy when you have kids. Our boys will sometimes give us a hard time about going. I can see why they don’t care for it, most of the time they’re waiting around for me.  So we try to have something for them to look forward too!

Shirokiya Gachapon

Our kids love it here!  They have rows and rows of Japanese food stalls. They sell everything from musubi to curry to fancy desserts!  Although the food is delicious what our kids are really excited about is the Gachapon machines! Gachapon machines are those little coin machines with toys in capsules. Be sure to go to the booth to trade-in your money for the speical Gachapon coins!  Each coin is $1, the machines rand from $1 – $3. It can add up quickly so I try limit our boys to one toy each.  Every Sunday is Keiki day! Each child gets one free coin and a balloon!

Feeding the Fish for Free

Throughout Ala Moana, you’ll find Koi ponds. These ponds are not meant to have coins thrown in them, in fact, the metals can harm them.  But if you want to feed them they have started a new program that allows you to! They now pass out fish food! At 10 am they’re in front of Dior and at 10:30 am and 4 pm they’re in front of Bally.  The boys always love looking at the fishes so being able to feed it made it extra special!

Barnes and Noble

Going to Barnes and Noble is always fun with the boys!  They love looking at all the toys there and finding new books.  They also have a bunch of activities for the kids on different days of the week.  We’ve gone to a few and our kids enjoy it!

Disney Store

The Disney store is such a fun place!  They have tons of things to look at and for the most part, it’s kid-friendly.  The Disney store have a castle that the boys love to play in. They also have an interactive area where they can pick games and movies.  I like to browse the store while they’re entertained by these areas!
