Easy and Fun Halloween Activities

Halloween is always a fun time of year! One of our favorite ways to get into the Halloween season is by doing activities. These simple activities are a lot of fun to do with kids of all ages.

Easy melting hand halloween activity.

Melting Hand

Colored ice is always so much fun! To add a Halloween twist adds so much more excitement! I filled the glove with water and added a few drops of red food coloring. I squished it around to mix in the food coloring and added a few fun Halloween toys that we had around the house. I then tied the end of it and froze it. The next day I got it out and took it out of the glove. The boys poured warm water and sprinkled salt onto it to find the hidden treasures! So simple and so much Halloween fun!

Things We Talked About

  • We talked about the textures, such as the spiders we hard.
  • We also talked about what spooky meant to each of us. For example, a zombie is scary to one of us while a dark room is scary to someone else.
Simple counting with Halloween books activity.

Reading and Counting

One of the best and simplest tricks to work on math that I’ve learned from Counting with Kids is how to incorporate math into reading. We read a lot in our house, I never thought of incorporating math into our nightly reading though. So when she mentioned it, it opened up a whole new world for us. I was able to see the books that we were reading in a whole new light. One fun book that we love is “Six Little Kittens”. This book has tons of opportunities to use math. We count the kittens, we count the pumpkins, we count how many on each page and put it together. Besides counting I’ll ask questions such as what if one of them got lost how many would be left. You can also talk about shapes and colors. The possibilities are endless!

Simple Halloween play dough mat to work on senses.

Pumpkin Playdough Mats

I printed out a pumpkin from Sprinkles of Whimsey’s Halloween packet, it’s free! I then gave them play dough to make Jack-O-Lanterns. I showed Jake how to roll out the dough into strips. Usually, I just let them go but this time I decided to stay and play for a while! I pointed to my face and he placed the body parts on to the pumpkin. As he did that we also talked about our senses! Jake is still on the younger side so I honestly don’t think it made a huge impact on him but I feel the more we talk about it the better his understanding will grow!

Things We Talked About

  • As he created different body parts we talked about the different senses. For example, when he made the eyes I talked about how our eyes help us to see.
  • We talked about the different parts of a face, we have two eyes and one nose.
Easy Halloween sensory letter word find.

Halloween Letter Find

This simple activity is a fun way to work on letters. I had some expired oatmeal that I colored black. To color the oatmeal you add _ then shake it all up in a bag. Layout the oatmeal on a cookie sheet to dry. Be sure it’s completely dry before you store it. If it’s damp it’ll become moldy quickly. I threw in some letters and had Zack match it to an alphabet printable from The Magic Playbook subscription . He also covered the letters with the oatmeal and I called out a letter for him to find under the oatmeal!
