Simple and Easy Elf On a Shelf Ideas: Day 1

All week I’ll be sharing a series of simple Elf on a Shelf ideas. These ideas are easy to do and don’t require many materials. We’ve all had those moments just as we were about to fall asleep remember the Elf! Then thinking of something fun that didn’t require much work and did not involve food (in Hawaii bugs are everywhere and no one wants to see Elf covered in bugs) was too much work. So I’m here to help!

Full disclosure, I’ve bought items to make my life easier. Some of these ideas I used the items I bought but can easily be replicated without any of these props. If you wanted to look into props I bought the kit from the Holiday Co in 2019, they may have changed the theme for some of the days but I’m sure they’ll still have a lot of fun days! As a whole, I like this product. I also bought printables from Wink and Ink. I thought it was such a steal at $2 and since they’re instant downloads you can purchase them right now and use them right away!

Zip Lining

This has been one of my kids’ favorite scenes. I like it because it’s memorable, fun, and quick to put together. I used the props from the Holiday Co. box, it makes it look a lot cuter but you can do it without any props and it would still be fun! Just use some ribbon and tie it to two points. String your elf and some friends on it. I put a few friends watching, which is something the boys loved! When you do this be sure you pick light toys and you tie the string tight. You don’t want it falling off midday.

Tips

  • I use the same string every year so I make sure I don’t knot it. I tie our onto the top of the blinds. Instead of making a knot I wrap it around the top of the blinds a few times tie it (like you’re starting to tie a bow), wrap some more, tie again, and then go around the string a few times. So far it’s been holding up!
  • Since I avoid knots I only hang the Elf on it. If you choose to hang other animals on it remember it will be heavier and it has a greater chance of falling.

Other Days

Be sure to check out the rest of the week for other ideas!
