Simple and Fun Kids Halloween Activities

We love Halloween at our house! The boys start planning next years Halloween as soon as it’s over. So I took their lead and try to squeeze in as many easy memory making opportunities as I can! As with most families we don’t have a lot of time so I tried keep our activities simple and use as little supplies as possible, because I’m always trying to find ways simplify things! These simple and fun kids halloween activities are the perfect way to create memories and have fun with your kids this halloween season.

Simple oobleak melting hand activity perfect for Halloween fun with kids.

Kids Halloween Oobleak Melting Hand

Supplies

  • Corn Starch
  • Glove
  • Rubber Band
  • Water
  • Little Toys (optional)
  • Food Coloring (optional)

Have you ever tried Oobleak? It’s not solid or a liquid so it has a unique texture to it and my kids love playing with it. Obbleak is  non-Newtonian fluid or liquid. It’s sort of a solid and sort of a liquid. You’ll have to test it out to understand what I mean! In this case I just sprinkled some into a tray and placed the “hand” on it. As it melted it created the Oobleak.

To make the ice “hand” I filled the glove up with water. I added food coloring and mixed it around. Then I added a few little toys and used a rubber band to close it. I put it in the freezer and took it out when we were ready to do the activity!

I put my “hand” in a bow. By doing this the finger parts were thin in certain areas. When we were getting the ice out of the gloves some fingers broke. Since it was for Halloween I thought it went with the theme!

I gave each boy a bowl of water and they went out it with different fine motor tools. They loved finding the treasures in them. Once the ice was melted they had fun playing with the Oobleak!

Working on letter recognition with fun black water activity to celebrate Halloween with kids.

Black Water Letter Find

This was a simple activity to put together. I used a glass container but you can you any clear container. Fill it with water or add a few drops of black food coloring. I write some letters on a paper and put it under the container. To help keep the water contained I put it the glass container into a bin. I then gave the boys a medicine cup (which I think is the perfect size for this activity) and had them look for letters. If you press the cup down the water is pushed away and you’re able to see the letters.

Working on fine motor skills with marshmallow pumpkin patch painting.

Marshmallow Pumpkin Painting

My kids had a lot of fun doing this activity and it was almost effortless on my part! I simply drew a vine with a green crayon. Then added an X at different points on the vine. I put out orange paint out and wherever there was an X they put the boys stamped a marshmallow to make a pumpkin.

Simple fine motor spider counting sensory bin to do with your kids for Halloween.

Spider Counting

This easy sensory bin required very little work. I found spider rings at Target for $1 and have been using it in as many activities as I can!

Supplies

  • Spider Rings
  • Sensory Bin Filler (rice, pasta, corn, etc. I used chickpeas)
  • Tongs/Chopsticks/Clothespin (something to pick up the spiders with and work on fine motor skills)
  • Ten Frame (Optional, to work on our math. I try to squeeze as much out of every activity that I can)

I dumped the chickpeas into a bin and added the spiders to it. The boys then took the tongs and put it into the ten frame.

For the youngest he just put it in each block and I was happy with that. Then we counted because he loves to count!

For the middle he’s in preschool and has been working on numbers for awhile. So I called out a number and he put it in the blocks with the tongs. We did a little adding with the ten frame. I’d give him a number and color spider and he’d place them into the ten frame. Then I’d give him another number and color spider. We’d go over how many of each he had then he’d tell me the total. While we were doing this it was really relaxed and he loves working on his numbers. The whole idea is to introduce the them to these concepts while we play and have fun together.

Although my oldest understand these things, he’s in second grade, he still needed to get in on the action! So we did a few problems and I had him explain how he got his answer. Once we played for awhile they brought out their trucks and went into free play!

Kids Halloween simple and easy candy math fun.

Yummy Candy Kids Halloween Math

Math is more fun with candy! With Halloween coming up I bought some fun candies at Target. It came with gummy brains, eyes, candy corn and red gummies. I also had some marshmallow and pumpkin candy. I put a few candies in a bowl with the marshmallows and mixed it up. The graph from the Magical Playbook, it’s a monthly subscription that comes with tons of cute printable and food and activity ideas. You could also just draw a grid!

I gave the boys training chopsticks and had the boys put each candy in a row. One thing I loved about this grid was that it was in rows of five. Since we’ve been working with ten frames they could easily count the candies. Just like with spider counting I tried to make this activity effortless for each child. The toddler grouped his together and counted, I also added in talking about more and less. I’m not sure he understood it but I figured exposure is always good! The preschooler talked about more and less, similarities and differences of the candies, and different ways to make 10. Lastly the second grader graphed it, we went beyond talking about ten, and different ways we could group things (body parts, color, etc.)
