Pom-Pom Fine Motor Skill Painting

Painting is one of our top activities at our house. We’re always looking for new ways to paint. Since Easter is coming up I knew we’d need some simple new decorations. I wanted something handmade and it needed something easy to set up with the supplies I have on hand. So I thought painting with pom poms would be fun. Plus the dabbing of the pom poms would look like fur!

Supplies

  • Ice Cube Tray
  • Paint
  • Pom Pom
  • Clothes Pin
  • Rabbit Clipart

How I Set It Up

I alternated between paint and a pom-pom. By coordinating the pom-pom color with the paint color it helped minimize color mixing. I gave each of them one clothespin and they had to clip the pom-pom. They put paint on it and dabbed it in the bunny. They had fun doing it and it was surprisingly a lower mess activity! I think it helped that I taped the paper to the table, it was especially helpful for the younger ones.

What We Talked About

I had all three boys do this activity. As we did it we talked about texture and colors. Blake (the oldest) just wanted his yellow because he wanted to make it look like a Peep! While Zack (4 yo) loves rainbows so we talked a lot about colors. On the other hand Jake (2 yo) needed a little help with the clothespin but as a whole, he enjoyed painting it.

I’m excited that we have a few new decorations ready for Easter! Now it’s time to hunt for an Easter egg hunt activity!
