Easy Color Hunt

Some days getting the boys to move can be a challenge plus I don’t always want to run around too. Having something that is easy to put together and fun is something I’m always looking for. When I saw this activity on I Heart Crafty Things it looked perfect to get them moving. It was simple, easy to make, worked on their colors, and got out some of their energy! We were going to do this in our backyard but since it ended up being a rainy day we did it in the house.

Supplies

  • *Bag, you could even use a scratch paper! A bag was nice because they could put all of their items in it though.
  • *Paint Pens or markers. I liked the paint pens because it was easy to see on the brown bag.
Finish Color Hunt
This was Zack’s bag (3yo) Blake helped him with it and they used some of the items for multiple colors, something I didn’t think of.

What They Learned

The boys worked on their colors and got moving! For the younger boys I colored in squares so they could see the color. Blake (6yo) is starting to read. I upped the challenge for him and wrote the words. He did really well reading all the colors. If your introducing color words to your child you could use that color pen to write the word. For example a pink pen to write pink.

What I Learned

This activity was really easy. With just a little prep we had a lot of fun. This activity can be used for a wide range of ages and it can be done anywhere. You can pair it with another activity like going to the zoo or make running errands fun! I also like that it got my kids talking and thinking. They thought creatively when finding colors. It helped them with teamwork since they helped each other find things. I was planning on helping Jake but Blake helped him instead! We also talked about the items they found by describing it which helps with their language!
